It’s always frustrated me that most book signings occur in obscure locations somewhere in Oklahoma, Texas or some backwoods town in Florida (if you’re from this town, I’m sorry…I don’t mean to offend). Why not San Francisco? I always asked…it was beyond annoying. I don’t have the funds nor the inclination to travel thousands of miles to have a book signed, unless Jane Austen were coming back from the grave to sign copies of PERSUASION or PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (or for that matter, even the sucky and ridiculous MANSFIELD PARK which I absolutely loathe)! In that case, I mostly definitely would wipe out my 401K (what little is in it) and hop on a flight.
It was with much pleasure recently that I discovered that two…yes, TWO, of my favorite authors are signing books here in the CITY BY THE BAY (or close to it, which is good enough for me): CANDICE HERN and JULIA QUINN.
Finally…now, if only we could get Mary Balogh and Lisa Kleypas and the AVON authors to come here…hmmm.

there hasn't been jack shit in texas over the last two years really....
I need to bookmark the RWA chapters in texas so I can check.
BUT really I am not sure how I feel about author signings.
Jenna,
Thank you for the info...I had heard of the convention in SF. I'm really looking forward to it!!! As for the other book signing...San Rafael? It's close but I don't have a car, so getting there (I have to cross the Golden Gate) on a Saturday especially will be difficult...argh! In any case, Candice Hern is the only author I've read from the list (I want to read Jewel but I can never find any of her books!). Thanks for the update...much appreciated. I guess they haven't forgotten about us really...I just wish there were more signings...kinda like those they (authors from every genre) have all the time in NY. I know SF isn't NY but one fan can always hope (and whine). Thanks!
Sybil,
I thought I read about some author signing in TX. Might be wrong. I was writing the entry at work during a sleepy moment and my boss was slowly approaching so I wrote it up quickly.
AGAIN, I CANNOT WAIT 'TIL THE CONVENTION IN SF...2008...ONLY 2 YEARS AWAY...
I plan on seeing Candice Hern on one of the dates she's got posted on her website...probably take BART (Bay Area Rapid Transportation for those not familiar with it...like the subway..sorta)to the signing she's having in Oakland in March...I shall see.
hmmm yes but it this some author sybil likes?
I am trying to become very pro texas writer! hee I am even judging in the Texas Gold, which makes me mucho happy.
I am in San Antonio. BUT I will so be there. I really need a job... hee they office in dallas hmmm ;)
I'm glad you're planning to track me down at a local booksigning, romancelover. Since you are without a car, your best bet might be the one on March 11 at the Waldenbooks on West Portal. Easy access via public transportation. I will be signing that afternoon with Julie Anne Long. If you haven't discovered her books yet, you should. She's a fantastic writer and I predict she is going to be a HUGE star.
March 11...will do...does this mean I have to wait to buy the book? I can't wait that long!
