Challenging Books

Currently reading Laura Kinsale's FLOWERS IN THE STORM...wow! This has to be one of the most challenging romances I've ever read. Fluffy and light are two words that could never be used to describe this book. Any other challenging books out there? Suggestions are much appreciated.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Diana Norman, Diana Gabaldon, almost all of Laura Kinsale's books and hmmm, earlier Judy Cuevas books like Dance and Bliss. Challenging books are fun and worth every effort to read it, to the very end. BTW, Diana Norman is not romance, she does write some damn good historical novels that have romantic threads in them. Strongly recommend all of her current books, A Catch of Consequence, Taking Liberties and loved, loved, loved The Vizard Mask (only available in the UK).
